Garden Valley School Division is a member of the Red River Technical Vocational Area (RRTVA), which is a consortium consisting of five school divisions in South-Eastern and South-Central Manitoba. The consortium exists to provide additional Technical/Vocational opportunities for students in the region. This allows students from other jurisdictions to access specific technical/vocational programs in other school divisions and yet continue to receive their academic credits in their home school.

Please visit the RRTVA Web site for more information on programs available to students within the region.

Co-op Education

Cooperative Education provides students with opportunities to transition their academic and vocational skills into the community. Once they have registered for Cooperative Education, students will consult with their instructor to select between two areas of focus: Occupational or Business/Industry. They then combine their choice with an Academic Cooperative Education Core of classroom and experiential instruction to obtain up to five (5) high school credits. For more information, contact Northlands Parkway Collegiate.

High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP)

Students in the RRTVA area are surrounded by a multitude of options regarding employment in apprenticeship approved trades. HSAP (High School Apprenticeship Program) provides students with opportunities in which they can explore trades in a real and relevant setting. A student starts the apprenticeship training while attending high school. It combines regular high school instruction with paid, part-time, on-the-job training. It does not take the place of academic studies. The HSAP program is available to all students in their home schools, coordinated by a regional coordinator. To participate in the HSAP program, the following is required:

Taking core subjects grades 10-12,
16 years of age
Enrolled in High School
The HSAP program provides practical, paid, work experience and the opportunity to:

Get hands-on experience using highly specialized, technological equipment
Earn up to 8 supplemental-40S-academic credits for graduation based on 110 working hours per credit (* up to 6 credits for Mature Diploma students)
Receive a wage that’s more than minimum average
Apply your on-the-job training hours to continue, full-time apprenticeship training after graduation
Use the skills you learn for a career in management or to start your own business
HSAP will connect students with the world of apprenticeship approved trades. For more information on HSAP, visit https://rrtva.blsd.ca/.
